He is also an executive editor of the quarterly journal Christian's Expositor, and an editor for the Old Paths Advocate, a journal that has been in existence since 1932. In 2002, he began writing a monthly column for the Old Paths Advocate called "The Back Page."

Carl was united in marriage December 30, 1966, to Phyllis Kay Smith, of Healdton, OK. They have two sons: Corey and David. Corey and his wife Julie have two children: Charlotte and Sam. David and wife Stacy also have two children: Whitt and Finley.

Carl credits much of what success he has realized as an evangelist to the cooperation and support of his home congregation in Ada. The church supplements his income while "sending him out" to preach the gospel throughout the land.
